Interesting for the behavior of top predators in the food chain we call earth. But pleast note that first, I am totally with Saban on Israel. Second, it seems to me he made his money honestly. Still, billionaires make me think of predators for some reason. I have been interested for a long time in predation and how some model or other of predation might be applied to, for want of a better term, law and economics. I think a lot of human behavior is more or less predatory (I don't mean this as a… [read post]

Really. The only Irish cooking I remember is that it was a custom in my family gotten from my Irish grandmother to serve both oyster stew and clam chowder as the Christmas eve meal. Why this should be an Irish custom, I don't know. I remember thinking my grandmother was a pretty good cook. [read post]

This essay is generating a lot of comment on The Corner. I don't know, but I would count myself as pretty skeptical about "internet pornography addiction" as a contemporary social scourge. But I'm not inclined to dismiss it entirely either. It must be the case that an industry as enormous ($72 billion per year in revenues?!) as pornography must have a big social impact and I doubt it is unambiguously good. As to the essay, on the one hand, if a husband is spending hours every day… [read post]

Too perfect. I wish I had thought of Boxer as a giant hot air balloon. I am disappointed it doesn't mention the Senator's apparently semi-autobiographical novel about a hot woman Senator complete with a sex scene involving a man stallion. Just to be clear: I am fine with our lady senators of a certain age being so fortunate as to hook up with man stallions, whether in their imaginations or in real life. But I don't think they should write novels about it. That makes them look like… [read post]

In a world where children are crushed by falling rubble, nobody has any right to complain about a cold, so let me stipulate I am not complaining. In the tradition of the RC, I am just sayin' how it is. How it is is that I have been, uh, experiencing a nasty cold that has just been going on and on and on, for maybe three weeks now. I am really really tired of it. Even my difficult to impress LWJ, who regularly sees patients on their way out, has been impressed by this… [read post]

Where Obamaism comes from.Unfortunately it is a case of whether this will result in metaphorically speaking a chastened person who has learned his lesson or just a dead person who killed himself by doing something stupid. Occasionally I feel encouraged that a majority of people is really figuring out we (though I take no credit -- I certainly did not vote for the guy) elected a hard core leftist to the Presidency. And this. Oh dear. [read post]
