What is Shrum talking about here about the Tea Party?   What I don't understand is, what is to be gained by underestimating your enemy?  They're a bunch of kooks, racists, spawn of the devil, yada yada.  Maybe it's a matter of encouraging the troops?  "They put on their pants one leg at a time" our wrestling coach used to tell us, even though you did not wrestle in pants, but in shorts or tights.  It also bothered me that I could well imagine… [read post]

Mark should have sold it for billions when he had the chance. Or maybe he should just throw a few million at the guy and make him go away. [read post]

Are we on the verge of a New Age in which progressivism is rejected by the people and we morph into something much more liberty friendly? [read post]

I saw Inception yesterday, as did millions of others I gather. My teenage boys just loved it. I thought it was OK. I would give it a B or B+. As an intellectual puzzle, I just didn't find it that intriguing. Honestly, I thought Shutter Island was better, though I found that movie disappointing as well. I wonder if younger generations' complete immersion in virtual worlds such as video games makes the concept behind Inception more intriguing. [read post]

I always read whatever Sean Trende at RCP writes. He is very quantitative and his judgments tend to be cautious and not particularly ideological. I also get a kick out his last name. [read post]

One of the things the writer evidently does not know how to do, and may not know he does not know it, is how to say what he has to say in only approximately as many words as necessary. However, it is still interesting and the bank robber story is deeply amusing. And he is also evidently one of those people who think that "Rumsfeld" is a kind of evil talisman that causes all that that person said or thought to be dumb or wrong. How dumb would you have to be to think that way? Truth is where… [read post]

Read to the end. I didn't comment on it before, but like I hope many people I found the exchange in which A.G. Holder was apparently unwilling to acknowledge that radical Islam had anything to do with recent terrorist attacks just about unbelievable. If you had told me beforehand that such an exchange would happen, I would have said, oh, no, you exaggerate, and thought to myself you were the sort of embarrassing right wing crank those of us on the respectable right could do without. This sort… [read post]

This really is the book to read if you are going through the hell of college selection and application. Well, hell might be something of an exaggeration I guess. Maybe something like pregnancy. You may want to throw up a few times, aspects of it are pretty grisly, but you can reasonably hope something good will emerge out the whole painful and expensive process. Let's hope. As someone on the inside of the education biz, and you must remember it is a very marketing-oriented business with a… [read post]
